What is the study medication?

The study medication, called PLG0206, is an irrigation solution designed to treat PJI by targeting biofilm and killing bacteria on and around the prosthetic knee joint. Biofilm protects bacteria that stick to each other and grow on a surface from being exposed to antibiotics.

The study doctor rinses the infected area with the study medication for about 15 minutes during a standard surgery called a DAIR  (debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention) procedure in which damaged and infected tissues and components of the prostheses are removed and the wound is cleaned. The prosthetic remains intact. The study medication is investigational and will be used while undergoing standard treatment to take care of the infection.

What is an "investigational" medicine?

Investigational means the study medication is not approved by regulatory authorities like the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and it can only be used in clinical research studies like LOGIC-1.
